Red Sox get another 24 hours

Curt Schilling and the Red Sox need more time.

At the request of both, Major League Baseball has granted a 24-hour extension on the deadline for the two sides to reach an agreement.

A spokeswoman for the Diamondbacks declined to say why the deadline was extended.

In a prepared statement, Schilling said the Red Sox requested the extension and that the Diamondbacks agreed. "I would rather have finished the negotiations" by the original deadline, he said.
