Report: Mets eye ace after Guerrero deal folds

The New York Mets missed out on Vladimir Guerrero at the last minute, but word is they might have a backup plan for the money they would've spent. It's a simple plan: Pick up Greg Maddux.

Some members of the Mets organization think Fred Wilpon could be convinced to use the $10 million to $11 million aimed at Guerrero on the right-handed free agent, according to The (Bergen County, N.J.) Record.
