First inning adds to rivalry drama

NEW YORK -- Pedro Martinez needed only three batters Thursday night to rekindle the bad blood with the New York Yankees that boiled over in last year's playoffs.

The Boston Red Sox ace hit Gary Sheffield in the back with a tailing fastball with two outs and none on in the first inning, prompting some tense moments at Yankee Stadium.

Sheffield was also hit by Curtis Leskanic in the bottom of the 12th before the Yankees won it 5-4 in the 13th.
