Lieber agrees to one-year, $3.5 million contract with Cubs

CHICAGO -- Jon Lieber, a 20-game winner for the Chicago Cubs in 2001, rejoined the team Wednesday by agreeing to a $3.5 million, one-year contract.

Lieber, who spent the previous three seasons in Philadelphia and underwent surgery for a ruptured tendon in his foot last year, will compete for a spot in Chicago's rotation when the Cubs report to spring training next month. He can earn performance bonuses based on games started and innings pitched.
