Longtime Braves scout retires

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves have announced the retirement of longtime scout and front-office executive Dick Balderson.

Balderson retires after 16 seasons in the Atlanta organization, the last decade as a major league scout and special assistant to general manager Frank Wren.

Wren announced Tuesday that Balderson would be replaced by Jeff Schugel, who has spent the last seven seasons working as a scout for the Los Angeles Angels.
