Tigers reliever Alex Wilson, who recorded a pair of outs in the bottom of the seventh, said it felt good to be used in a critical situation again. Admitted that this is the healthiest he's felt all season. Sounds like the All-Star break did him a world of good. Went up north with family, didn't even touch a ball. Said he can now tell a difference even when playing catch. Seems like it is paying dividends. Manager Brad Ausmus said that he wasn't sure if he's seen Wilson throw the ball that well all season.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera becomes only the eighth player in MLB history to reach the 400 home run and 1500 RBI milestone in the first 14 seasons played. His 2RBI single was more than just historic, though. It was also the sort of timely production that has been conspicuously lacking for Tigers lately. Said manager Brad Ausmus: "There's no question we've been kind of searching in recent games for that kind of hit."

In our ESPN interviews in Cooperstown Friday with the incoming Hall of Famers, Mike Piazza said he was "a good hitter with power, not a 'power hitter,' because I did like to make contact," and Ken Griffey Jr. said, "I probably take more pride in my defense than my offense, because it's the matter of will -- do I have the will and desire to run into a wall, climb a wall, dive for a ball?"

Big night for Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera, who now has 43 four-hit games in his career and passed the 1,500 RBI milestone with a clutch two-run single in the seventh inning. That's one way to cease discussion about a slump...

Terry Collins says he will almost definitely wait until after the weekend to use Michael Conforto in center field. Spacious Marlins Park is not the optimal location to give Conforto his first professional action at the position. The Mets open a home series on Monday against the Cardinals.

Hit hard by injuries all season, the Dodgers' Brandon McCarthy had to leave Friday's game at St. Louis in the seventh inning. There is a chance McCarthy was dealing with a leg cramp on the warm evening. He left in a 2-2 tie but had given up just one hit.

Mookie Betts felt what manager John Farrell described as "soreness" in his knee to the point where he "felt like he couldn't run as normal." Farrell called it "precautionary" to take Betts out of the game. Red Sox hoping it's not a lingering issue.

The Dodgers and Cardinals appear to be in an even battle tied 2-2 in the seventh inning. Tucked away in the linescore, however, is the fact that the Dodgers have 11 hits and have left 10 on base. The Cardinals have one hit and have left one on base.
