Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati in both clubs' regular season finale to clinch a home game against the Cubs for the National League wild card.


deGrom, Mets get on track vs. Nats

The day after Max Scherzer pitched a no-hitter against the Mets, New York had the pitching edge. Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon and Logan Verrett all looked solid as they had a combined no-hitter going until it was broken up in the 7th vs. Jon Niese. This two-hit shutout ended the Mets' five-game skid.

Haren to retire after postseason

Cole Hamels tossed a three-hitter and Adrian Beltre knocked in three runs to guide the Rangers to the division crown with a 9-2 win that eliminated the Angels from playoff contention.

Cole Hamels may have won a World Series MVP award. But one thing he'd never done before today was win a regular season clincher. Did pitch the 2007 game that put the Phillies in first place for the first time, in Game 160. But they didn't clinch that day.

Kershaw second-fastest to 300 K's

Clayton Kershaw needed 232.2 innings to reach 300 strikeouts this season. The only pitcher in MLB history who needed fewer innings was Pedro Martinez in 1999 (213.1 innings).
