Visitor's clubhouse damaged during weekend series

ESPN.com news services

The Giants are billing the Mets $4,000 for damage to the Pac Bell Park visiting clubhouse during San Francisco's three-game sweep this weekend, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting.

After a 3-2 loss in 10 innings Friday night, damage was inflicted to the bat rack, the dugout roof, a clubhouse heating panel, a phone line, two doors, a bathroom stall divider and a paper-towel dispenser.

The Giants notified the Mets that an invoice will be sent in the next few days.

The Chronicle reported that reliever Armando Benitez was believed to be involved in the rampage. He gave up Benito Santiago's game-winning hit.

The Mets are 14-23 after playing in the World Series last season.

"It's not a shock. It happens," said senior vice president of ballpark operations Jorge Costa, who would not reveal which players were involved. "People get frustrated and manifest their frustrations in different ways."

Costa said everything will be fixed before the next game at Pac Bell, May 24 against the Rockies.
