NEW YORK -- Outfielder Danny Bautista, a World Series hero for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was among four players to file for free agency Thursday.
Houston pitchers Pedro Astacio and Doug Brocail filed along with San Francisco pitcher Mark Gardner.
Bautista had three hits and five RBI last Saturday in Arizona's 15-2 Game 6 rout of the New York Yankees. The following night, the Diamondbacks rallied in the ninth inning for a 3-2 win and the World Series title.
A total of 142 players have filed in the first four days of the filing period among the 160 potentially eligible to become free agents by the Nov. 20 deadline. The players eligible decreased by one Thursday when the Philadelphia Phillies exercised a $4.5 million option on Omar Daal, who went 13-7 with a 4.46 ERA.
Astacio, Brocail and Gardner filed one day after their teams declined 2002 options. |
