Reliever faces jail term, fines, license suspension

Associated Press

GLENDALE, Calif. -- Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Guillermo Mota was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence Wednesday after being arrested April 21.

Mota is scheduled to be arraigned June 17 in Glendale Superior Court on misdemeanor counts of DUI and driving while having a .08 percent or higher blood-alcohol level.

If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail, fines and suspension of his driver's license, according to Deputy District Attorney Daniel Feldstern.

Mota, 29, was allegedly driving between 85-90 mph on the freeway in Glendale when he was stopped by the California Highway Patrol.

He declined comment before Wednesday night's game against the Colorado Rockies, and a Dodgers spokesman said the team would have no comment.

Mota is 2-1 with a 1.05 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings going into Wednesday.
