The Angels recalled infielder-outfielder Robb Quinlan from
Triple-A Salt Lake to replace Sele on the roster.
Sele left after pitching six innings in Thursday night's 5-4
victory over Milwaukee. He gave up four runs on six hits, and the
Angels trailed 4-1 when he left.
Sele said afterward that he felt no pain, but had no zip on his
Sele was showing signs that he was fully recovered from rotator
cuff surgery in October 2002. He was 4-0 with a 3.56 ERA in eight
starts and 12 appearances this year.
Sele, 33, is on the DL for the third time since the Angels
signed him as a free agent in December 2001.
He began last season on the DL to recuperate from the rotator
cuff surgery. The operation was performed after he missed the final
month of the 2002 regular season because of a tear in his right
He has a career 126-88 record with 14 complete games, eight
shutouts and a 4.46 ERA in 305 games, all but five of them starts.
Quinlan, 27, hit .296 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 27 games at
Salt Lake. He was recalled from Salt Lake on May 5 and hit .281
with one RBI in 12 appearances for Anaheim before returning to Salt
Lake last Tuesday.
