Orioles sign OF Matos, avoid arbitration

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles on Friday agreed to a
one-year contract with outfielder Luis Matos, avoiding arbitration.

No financial terms were disclosed but Matos made $1.025 million
in 2005.

Matos hit .280 with four homers and 23 RBI in 121 games last
season. However, with the acquisition of center fielder Corey
Patterson this offseason, Matos may be relegated to a fourth
outfielder role in 2006.

In parts of six seasons, all with the Orioles, Matos, 27,
has hit .260 with 28 homers and 135 RBI in 439 games.

Also on Friday, the Orioles signed pitchers Tim Byrdak, Sendy Rleal, Marino Salas and outfielder Val Majewski to one-year contracts.
