Twins send Stewart on rehab assignment

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins sent injured left fielder Shannon Stewart on a rehabilitation assignment Friday night.

Stewart will join Triple-A Rochester for Saturday's game at Louisville. On the disabled list since May 22 with a plantar fascia problem in his left foot, Stewart is expected to return to the Minnesota lineup around the end of the month.

Where he will play is another matter. Normally the team's leadoff batter, Stewart will likely see more time as the designated hitter when he comes back because rookie Jason Kubel is hitting well as the left fielder.
