Pettitte, 13-13 with a 4.37 ERA this season, left in the third
inning of Tuesday's game in St. Louis after straining a flexor
muscle in the elbow on his pitching arm. He had been slated to
start Sunday against Philadelphia.
Astros manager Phil Garner said Pettitte is scheduled to start
Tuesday against Cincinnati, and Wandy Rodriguez (9-9) will pitch on
"I'm frustrated for sure," Pettitte said. "Obviously, you
want to take the mound as much as you can, but you don't want to go
out there and walk off again. Hopefully, I'll feel good on
Pettitte had a cortisone injection on Wednesday, and an MRI exam
showed no structural damage. He threw on flat ground Friday for the
first time since the injection, and Garner decided to delay his
"He didn't feel bad," Garner said, "but I just don't get the
feeling he's going to be ready Sunday."
