Bo Porter up for Pirates' managing gig

PITTSBURGH -- Former Diamondbacks coach Bo Porter has interviewed for the Pittsburgh Pirates' managerial job.

Porter was hired by Arizona last winter as third base coach after five seasons on Florida's coaching staff. He shifted to bench coach when Kirk Gibson took over as manager at midseason, but was one of four Arizona coaches not retained after the season ended.

Porter becomes the first minority candidate interviewed by the Pirates, who fired John Russell on Monday after his teams lost 299 games in three seasons. Former Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge interviewed on Tuesday.

The Pirates are announcing each candidate as he is interviewed, but are not discussing their search.
