Daily Rumble: Dunn going to AL -- somewhere

Adam Dunn
As far back as Monday, Rumblings was suggesting there was a chance Dunn could wind up with the White Sox as part of a bunch of wheeling and dealing with Arizona that would land Edwin Jackson in Washington. And that remained a possibility Friday morning, though not as strong a possibility as some people were making it out to be.READY TO RUMBLE
Sir Lance-a-lot: The Astros had almost no action on Lance Berkman until the past few days. But all of a sudden, Berkman has gone 5-for-10, with a homer, a double and five RBIs in his past three games. And the Astros just went out and traded for his heir apparent, Brett Wallace. So one AL exec now says: "Berkman's going to go." The White Sox, Yankees, Red Sox and Rays have all checked out Berkman. But the same exec predicts the Yankees will swoop in and get this done if they miss out on Dunn. If not, Berkman is expected to clear waivers. So he could easily get dealt next week if nothing happens by Saturday.
Fish bait: Remember that theory that there was no way the Marlins would trade Cody Ross in the wake of Chris Coghlan's pie-throwing injury? Uh, never mind. We've heard the Braves have made one last pre-deadline push to convince the Fish to deal Ross, and the Marlins were wavering. The Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers have also been linked to Ross, even this week. And a source said the Phillies had continued to express interest until just before they pulled the trigger on the Oswalt deal. So while the Marlins are still likely to hang onto Ross, at least for now, the Braves were trying awfully hard to change their minds in the past 24 hours.
Westbrook ho: The Cardinals and Yankees are among the teams that have checked in on Jake Westbrook. But two baseball men who spoke with the Indians tell Rumblings they came away with the distinct impression the 32-year-old right-hander will wind up staying in Cleveland. For one thing, Westbrook has expressed a strong desire to return to the Indians next year, even though he'll be a free agent after the season. And the Indians clearly value his leadership on an otherwise-young staff. Beyond that, as we've mentioned before, the $2 million bonus if Westbrook gets traded, in addition to the nearly $4 million he has left in salary, has become a major sticking point, because the Indians haven't expressed much interest in eating a significant portion of those dollars.
X marks the bat: The Cubs have been spreading word they would love to move Xavier Nady, for next to nothing, to a team looking for a bat off the bench or a guy to fill the right-handed half of a platoon in the outfield or first base. Nady's 3-for-22 funk this month hasn't helped his marketability. But it could be explained, in part, by the fact that his playing time has all but disappeared. And he's a .296 career hitter against left-handed pitching, with a .367 on-base percentage and .816 OPS. So it wouldn't be a shock to see him move in a minor deal in the next 24 hours.
The part of that wheeling and dealing that's already happened was the trade that sent Jackson to the White Sox, with rookie right-hander Daniel Hudson and pitching prospect David Holmberg -- a former No. 2 draft pick -- ending up with the D-backs. But two sources with knowledge of those discussions told Rumblings there was only a remote chance of the White Sox turning around and spinning Jackson to Washington in a deal for Dunn.
However, another baseball man, a guy who has had many dealings with White Sox GM Kenny Williams, was skeptical of that talk, saying: "They really want the bat. Always remember this: Kenny's M.O. is to get Adam Dunn, not Edwin Jackson. Kenny lives to walk the red carpet."
Ted Lilly
With Oswalt, Dan Haren and Cliff Lee all packed up and shipped out, the Cubs have now positioned Lilly as the best starter left on this market. And with his next turn scheduled for Sunday -- aka the day after the deadline -- they'd love to hone in on a deal quickly.
Scott Downs
Is it really possible the consensus Best Bullpen Arm on the Market doesn't move at all? Increasingly, clubs that have spoken with the Blue Jays believe it is.

Keith Law on Edwin Jackson deal:
For the White Sox, it's possible that they're going to keep Edwin Jackson moving, but if they keep him, he's only a marginal upgrade over [Daniel] Hudson the rest of the way, even though he has significantly better raw stuff.
