Rene Arocha (Cuba)

Arocha was hardly the first Cuban-born player to play in the major leagues. But he was the first in a wave of Cuban defections that has continued to this day. The right-hander defected in 1991 during an international competition and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched in four MLB seasons, his last coming in 1997.
