Bats: Right. Throws: Right
Gourriel has been a mainstay on the Cuban national team for nearly a decade and, in some estimations, is the best infielder on the planet not currently drawing a major league paycheck. Now 28, he has been representing his nation in international play since he was 17, and has already led Cuba into two Olympic Games (2004 gold medalist and 2008 silver medalist) and two World Baseball Classics (2006 and 2009). In 2009 as Cuba's shortstop, he hit .333 with a pair of home runs in the WBC. Over 14 games in the first two WBCs combined, Gourriel has a .292 average with four home runs and 12 RBIs. He is the son of former Cuban baseball star Lourdes Gourriel.
