Garza Stifles Phillies
From Elias: Jimmy Rollins's leadoff single was the only hit that Matt Garza allowed over seven scoreless innings in the Cubs' 5-1 win at Philadelphia. Garza was the first opposing starter to hold the Phillies to no more than one hit through the first seven innings of a game at Citizens Bank Park since August 2010, when Jonathan Sanchez did it for the Giants.

Garza Misses A Shutout By One Out
From Elias: Matt Garza pitched eight-and-two-thirds innings and struck out nine batters in his 8-0 win over the Brewers in Chicago. Garza had a shutout literally within his grasp but his throwing error after fielding a comebacker with two outs in the ninth inning prolonged the game and Cubs manager Dale Sveum lifted Garza, who had thrown 119 pitches. Had Garza's throw to first been accurate he would have recorded only the second shutout by a Cubs pitcher at Wrigley Field over the last five seasons. Ryan Dempster is still the only Cubbie to whitewash an opponent at the "Friendly Confines" since the start of the 2008 season. He blanked the Pirates there on Sept. 29, 2009. Only four other major-league teams have no more than one complete-game home shutout over the last five seasons: Baltimore (0), San Diego (0), Florida (1, by Chris Volstad) and the Yankees (1, by CC Sabathia).
