Alex Gordon, the prototypical post-hype prospect, has broken onto the fantasy scene. To be fair, injuries have contributed to Gordon's lack of development, so staying healthy all year was integral to his success. Curiously, the difference between the two seasons was not as great as one may expect as Gordon's base skills were similar both years. To wit: His 2010 contact rate was 74.4 percent compared to 77.3 last season, his 2010 line drive percentage was 23.2 percent, compared to 22 last season, and his 2010 HR/FB was 11.3 percent compared to 12.3 last season. Factor in that Gordon walked at a greater clip in '10, and you could argue the skills were a wash. The difference was a .254 BABIP in 2010 soared to .358 last summer. It would be naive to suggest this 104-point difference was all luck, but based on the skills analysis, it was not all skill, either. Drafting Gordon expecting a repeat of last season's batting average and No. 24 ranking on the ESPN Player Rater is dangerous, but his presence at the top of an improving Kansas City attack should render counting stats worthy of his ranking.","seasonId":2012,"date":"Mon Feb 27"},"playerRater30DAY":0.6,"playerRater15DAY":-4.8,"positionRank":70}
