Rapid Reaction: Yankees 4, Rays 3
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A fine starting pitching performance by Vidal Nuno, a stirring ninth-inning rally and a game-saving catch by Ichiro Suzuki set the stage for a dramatic 11th-inning home run by Lyle Overbay that provided the New York Yankees with a most-unlikely 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at The Trop.

Bottom Of Yankees Batting Order Stars In Win Over Rays
From Elias: The bottom four of the Yankees' starting lineup (David Adams, Lyle Overbay, Jayson Nix, Chris Stewart) each had two hits and at least one run scored in New York's 9-4 victory at Tropicana Field. The last time the starting 6-7-8-9 hitters for the Yankees each had multiple hits in the same game was August 6, 2009 - the Yankees' final four that day against the Red Sox were Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher, and Melky Cabrera.

Ninth Spot Stings Verlander
From Elias: Jayson Nix hit a two-run homer off Justin Verlander to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead in the second inning of their 7-0 win at Detroit. It was the first regular-season home run that Verlander allowed to a starter in the ninth spot of the batting order since Russell Martin took him deep at Yankee Stadium on April 27, 2012. Martin's homer was the only one allowed by Verlander in 262 at-bats against him by starters in the bottom-third of the batting order last season. New York's Eduardo Nunez homered off Verlander from the nine-hole in Game 3 of the 2012 ALCS.
