McGee's got six straight scoreless outings under his belt and has a 7:1 K:BB in those 5.1 innings. He seems to be gaining the trust of manager Joe Maddon.","date":"Wed May 23"},"fullName":"Jake McGee","seasonOutlook":{"outlook":"With the Rays' closer role up for grabs entering spring training 2011, McGee appeared a viable candidate, but he lost out to Kyle Farnsworth then earned a demotion to Triple-A after posting a 5.14 ERA in his first 11 regular-season appearances. Upon his return he was more effective, posting a 4.29 ERA and 10.71 K/9 ratio, albeit with a steep platoon split that painted the picture of a LOOGY (Left-handed One Out GuY). McGee's potential is something greater than that; his mid-90s fastball/curveball combination, however, is lacking against right-handers. It's for that reason he has a big step to take before he could be termed a true AL-only ratios helper, let alone a future closer, but at age 25 he's young enough to be monitored closely in case he does develop such an \"out\" pitch.","seasonId":2012,"date":"Fri Feb 10"},"playerRater30DAY":2.5,"playerRater15DAY":1.7,"positionRank":69}

Pitching Keys Another Home Win For Rays
From Elias: The Rays' 2-1 victory over the Red Sox improved their home record to 14-3, best in the majors, and lowered their home ERA to 2.55, best in the American League. Jeremy Hellickson, the winning pitcher on Wednesday night, is now 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA in five home starts this season. He was supported by an inning of scoreless relief from each of three relief pitchers--Jake McGee, Joel Peralta and Fernando Rodney. Rays relievers have an ERA of 1.71 and have held opponents to a .176 batting average in St. Petersburg this season.
