Previously questionable in terms of plate discipline and a hitter who could scarcely touch breaking pitches, Rasmus began picking his pitches, drawing more walks and attacking curveballs and sliders ... and then in the second half of the year, he gave back all of his gains and then some. He slumped to .176/.238/.278 rates with a 29.3 percent strikeout rate after the All-Star break, .116 with a 51.4 percent K rate specifically against breaking balls. In short, Rasmus' career was trending steeply downward, despite his age (he's 26) suggesting it should be headed upward.
