Scherzer's Streak Ends
From Elias: J.D. Martinez and Carlos Corporan each homered off of Max Scherzer in the Astros' 7-5 win over the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. That snapped a streak of 27 consecutive starts in which Scherzer allowed fewer than two home runs, which was the longest current streak in the major leagues entering Wednesday's action. Prior to Scherzer the last Tigers' pitching to allow fewer than two homers in at least 27 consecutive starts was Kevin Ritz, who had a 28-start streak without allowing multiple home runs for Detroit from 1989 to 1992.

King Felix And Scherzer Lock Up In A Pitchers' Duel
From Elias: Felix Hernandez and Max Scherzer locked up in a pitchers' duel for the ages on Wednesday night. Hernandez allowed only one unearned run and had 12 strikeouts and Max Scherzer matched him with a one-run/12-strikeouts performance of his own. It marked only the fifth time since 1900 that opposing starting pitchers each had 12 or more strikeouts while allowing one or fewer runs in the same game. The previous such matchups featured Cincinnati's Jim Maloney against Pittsburgh's Bob Veale (Sept. 30, 1964), the Dodgers Sandy Koufax against Philadelphia's Jim Bunning (July 27, 1966), Oakland's Vida Blue against California's Rudy May (July 9, 1971) and Seattle's Randy Johnson against California's Mark Langston (Sept. 16, 1992).
