Valbuena's 2013 Power Surge
From Elias: Luis Valbuena's fourth home run of the season snapped a 3-3 tie with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and provided the winning margin for the Cubs in their 4-3 victory over the Marlins. Valbuena has had only 59 at-bats this year but he's already matched his major-league home run total for the entire 2012 season, when he had 265 at-bats for the Cubs. Valbuena entered this season with exactly 1000 at-bats but only 17 home runs in his major-league career, an average of one homer every 59 at-bats.

Cubs shut down Baker; Stewart to start on DL
Chicago Cubs pitcher Scott Baker has been shut down with a sore right elbow while third baseman Ian Stewart will start the season on the disabled list because of a strained left quad, manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday.
