After two straight seasons of a declining walk rate, Romero's BB/9 ballooned to 5.22 while his strikeout rate plummeted to a career low 6.2 mark. Not surprisingly, it was revealed after the season that Romero had pitched through some lingering injuries, including a quadriceps tightness for which he received platelet injections in both knees and a sore pitching elbow requiring arthroscopic surgery. As such, Romero is going to be on a lot of bounceback lists. However, it is important to note that even when healthy, Romero's strikeout rate was barely league average while his walk rate was worse than league average.
