Perhaps that was a bit of an overcorrection, but even accounting for that, Guzman looked quite the part of a platoon man, sporting .303/.401/.541 rates against lefties -- the second consecutive year he had an OPS greater than .890 against that side -- but .206/.253/.327 against righties. That's his role these days, filling in for a Padres team with left-handed hitters at first base (Yonder Alonso) and right field (Will Venable), plus backing up for an injury-prone Carlos Quentin in left field.
