Pirates Win Despite 17 Strikeouts
From Elias: The Pirates were facing a starting pitcher who was undefeated in his last 21 starts and they struck 17 times. But against all odds, Pittsburgh posted a 4-0 victory over Mat Latos and the Reds. That matched the highest strikeout total in any of the Pirates' 8107 victories of nine or fewer innings since 1900.

Latos Subdues The Cardinals
From Elias: Mat Latos lived a bit dangerously, allowing eight hits over seven innings, but he came through in key situations and lifted his record to 6-0 by earning credit for the Reds' 4-2 win over St. Louis. The clutch-hitting Cardinals entered the game with a major-league-leading .342 batting average with runners in scoring position, but Latos limited them to one hit in five such at-bats and closer Aroldis Chapman added another 0-for-2. For the season, opponents are batting just .190 against Latos and .174 against Chapman with runners in scoring position. With Saturday's victory, Latos has now gone 20 consecutive starts without a loss in regular-season play (though he was the losing pitcher in a postseason game against the Giants last year). That's the longest such streak in the history of the Reds.
