He is a free swinger, whiffing 31.2 percent of the time last year (23.0 percent during his minor league career), which is a major reason he was demoted in July to the minors, where his season soon after ended prematurely due to a foot injury. Nieuwenhuis is therefore a risky batting-average bet, and a smarter bargain bet in leagues that credit on-base percentage, thanks to his 8.0 percent walk rate as a rookie and 9.5 percent in his minor league career. He'll help in homers and runs as long as he doesn't hand back the job -- not that the Mets have many alternatives -- but this is an NL-only target who comes with a steep downside.","seasonId":2013,"date":"Wed Feb 20"},"positionRank":170}
