Grand Slam Follows A Pitching Change
From Elias: Devin Mesoraco greeted Kris Medlen with a sixth-inning grand slam to help the Reds complete a four-game series sweep with a 6-3 win over the Braves. Medlen was the fifth major-league pitcher to serve up a bases-loaded homer to the first batter he faced in a game this season. The others were the Mets' Bobby Parnell (to Ramon Hernandez), the Mets' Tim Byrdak (to Todd Helton), Detroit's Collin Balester (to Brandon Inge) and Milwaukee's Kameron Loe (to David DeJesus). It was the second time during Fredi Gonzalez's managerial tenure with Atlanta that he made a pitching change that was immediately followed by a grand slam, but not to worry. Bobby Cox did that 11 times while managing the Braves.
