Morneau & Plouffe Take Fister Deep
From Elias: Justin Morneau and Trevor Plouffe hit back-to-back home runs off Doug Fister in the third inning and the Twins were never caught, posting a 4-3 win over the Tigers. Fister had allowed only two home runs is his previous 55.2 innings at Comerica Park, and he had allowed homers to consecutive batters only once before in his major-league career--to a different pair of Twins, Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel (May 31, 2010).

Fister's 2-0 Lead Melts Away In Seattle
From Elias: If Doug Fister didn't have bad luck, he'd have no luck at all. Facing the Mariners for the first time since they traded him to the Tigers last summer, Fister left with a 2-0 lead after seven innings. Not a lot of run support, but similar to what he received in his time with the Mariners: His teammates averaged only 2.78 runs per game in Fister's 59 starts with Seattle-the lowest run support afforded by any American League team to any pitcher who started his career in the so-called "live-ball era" (dating from when Babe Ruth joined the Yankees, in 1920) and made at least 50 starts with that team. The game was still 2-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth, but then Octavio Dotel walked the first two batters he faced in that inning. After a wild pitch, a passed ball, a double by Jesus Montero, a sacrifice bunt and John Jaso's sacrifice fly, the Mariners were the winners, 3-2. It was the third time in Dotel's big-league career that he had walked the opposing team's first two batters in the ninth inning while seeking to protect a one- or two-run lead¿the most such transgressions of that type by any major-league pitcher since Dotel entered the majors in 1999.
