Travis Wood, Three-finger Brown And The 1908 Cubs
From Elias: Travis Wood on Monday night became the first Cubs pitcher since Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown in 1908 to throw at least six innings while allowing no more than three runs in each of his first eight starts of a season. Of course the 1908 season was the last in which the Cubs won the World Series. Brown's biggest win of that regular season came in relief, over the Giants' Christy Mathewson, to give the Cubs the National League pennant in the final game of the season. That was the replay of the game ruled a tie because of the infamous baserunning blunder by Giants youngster Fred Merkle.
