Fatigue might have contributed, though it's a difficult case to make considering he had a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 10.95 strikeouts per nine in four starts to conclude the regular season after being restored to the rotation. Lynn's only weakness is the lack of an elite pitch to use against left-handers; he afforded them .268/.382/.451 rates (.833 OPS), compared to .233/.269/.358 (.626) against right-handers.
