What made the difference was an increased reliance upon his slider, which is easily one of the best in the game: He threw it 37 percent of the time last season, recorded 58 of his 91 K's and limited opponents to a .173 batting average with it. Whether that'll eventually tax Holland's arm is a question for a later year; for now, he's at the peak of his game with a closer's role all his own.
