When he returned in mid-June, the 2010 Japanese batting champion shifted to his more familiar position of shortstop, though he had played second earlier in his career. While it was not too surprising Nishioka's power was completely sapped after coming to the States, it was anticipated that he would get on base at better than a 28 percent clip, so he could utilize his speed. Nishioka's contact rate of 80.5 percent was passable, but his .281 BABIP was a result of his not hitting the ball particularly hard as opposed to bad luck. He is going to start the season backing up at both second base and shortstop and should be given some chances to regain the touch he had while in Japan, but he is worth carrying only as a caddy to Jamey Carroll or Alexi Casilla in the deepest of leagues until he shows he can hit the ball with more authority.","seasonId":2012,"date":"Mon Feb 27"}}
