MLB - Lowe, Alvarez not big on the strikeout
Two pitchers pitching on Sunday - Cleveland's Derek Lowe and Toronto's Henderson Alvarez - are on their way towards making a bit of history this season. Lowe and Alvarez are posting strikeout rates that would be among the lowest in the last 20+ seasons for any starter who pitched at least 50 innings in a season. What makes this even more odd? While Lowe can be understood given his age, lack of strikeouts in previous seasons and ground ball tendencies, Alvarez's average fastball velocity (92.8 mph) actually ranks 16th among all starters, ahead of such notable strikeout names as Clayton Kershaw, Brandon Morrow, Josh Johnson and Zack Greinke.

Lots Of Blanks In Angels Games
From Elias: Jerome Williams threw a shutout for the Angels on Tuesday night; Jered Weaver threw a no-run, no-hit game on Wednesday night for the Angels. Those two games were followed by Brandon Morrow and Henderson Alvarez throwing shutouts against the Angels. The Halos are the first team since the 1968 Indians to win two games via a complete-game shutout then lose the next two games in the same fashion.
