Unfortunately, the Giants did not like what they saw. After compiling a 2.02 ERA with a strikeouts/walks ratio of 165/44 in 142 1/3 innings with Double-A Richmond, Surkamp could not find the plate with the Giants, issuing 17 bases on balls while only fanning 13 in 26 2/3 big league innings. While it is true that Surkamp does not have the raw stuff of other, more highly touted prospects, you do not fan well over a batter an inning at any professional level by accident. Surkamp will almost assuredly begin the season at Triple-A Fresno, and it will be interesting to follow his plight, especially with respect to whiffs. If you are in a deep league with a long reserve list, Surkamp could be worth a speculative stash.","seasonId":2012,"date":"Wed Feb 15"}}
