However, the workload may have taken its toll as Chen struggled late, posting an ERA/WHIP of 3.64/1.22 through July compared to 4.75/1.35 in August and September. Of course, a counter argument could be made that teams adjusted after seeing him a couple of times. From a skills standpoint, Chen's strikeouts and walks are a bit better than average, but as an extreme fly-ball pitcher, he surrenders a plethora of homers, especially at home.
