From Elias: Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 16th save of the season in the Yankees' 4-3 win over the Mariners. By doing so, the 43-year-old Rivera took sole possession of the major-league lead in saves. No player in his 40s other than Rivera himself (two years ago) had done that since Hoyt Wilhelm led the majors with three saves for a period of four days early in the 1969 season. Wilhelm was 46 years old at the time.
