Sox Getting Some Good Starting Pitching
From Elias: Ryan Dempster struck out 10 batters and allowed only two hits in the Red Sox win on Monday, one day after Clay Buchholz struck out 11 and allowed only two hits for Boston. It's only the sixth time in baseball's modern era (since 1900) that a team's starting pitchers had back-to-back games with at least 10 strikeouts and two or fewer hits allowed. The other instances: the Brewers in 2011 (Yovani Gallardo and Zack Greinke), 2004 Marlins (Josh Beckett and Brad Penny), 2000 Dodgers (Kevin Brown and Chan Ho Park), 1986 Astros (three straight, Jim Deshaies, Nolan Ryan and Mike Scott) and 1960 Giants (Sam Jones and Jack Sanford). Red Sox starters have not allowed more than three runs in any of their 12 games this season, the longest such streak to start a season in Red Sox history. The previous high was nine games in 1916, with Babe Ruth in the Sox starting rotation. The last American League team whose starting pitchers allowed no more than three runs through their first 12 games of a season was the 1990 Brewers, who opened the season with a 14-game streak. The Brewers starting pitchers during that streak were Chris Bosio, Ted Higuera, Jaime Navarro, Mark Knudson and Tom Filer.

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Every time a Boston Red Sox starting pitcher went to the mound last season, it was history in the making. But if you think that’s a good thing, you obviously aren’t a Red Sox fan.
