He's actually more deserving of a chance to compete the role than you might think, for a very important reason: He cut what was a 4.01 walks-per-nine innings ratio entering 2012 to 1.86 last season, and did so while lowering his fly-ball rate to the lowest point it has ever been. Dotel might be 39 years old with lingering elbow questions from a summer ago and a history of inconsistency in the closer role, but he's not a bad late-round, speculative AL-only pick.
