Beltran Finally Breaks Out Vs. Mets
From Elias: Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in the Cardinals' 10-4 win over the Mets. Beltran came into the game with a .122 career batting average against the Mets, the lowest such mark by any active position player (minimum: 40 at-bats). Three active players have a lower BA vs. New York than Beltran - at least prior to his 3-for-5 outburst: Ricky Nolasco (.050), Josh Johnson (.050), and Jason Marquis (.073). Beltran had only one RBI versus the Mets in 15 games prior to Tuesday.

Cardinals Start Game With A Bang ... Two Bangs, Actually
From Elias: Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran hit back-to-back home runs to start the first inning for the Cardinals on Friday. The Cardinals hadn't started a game with consecutive home runs since 2004, when Tony Womack and Reggie Sanders did it versus Colorado. And before that instance, St. Louis hadn't done so since 1958, by Curt Flood and Gene Freese against Sandy Koufax.

Beltran Sees His Favorite Pitcher
Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 against Kyle Lohse on Friday and that lowered his career batting average against Lohse to .548 (23 for 42). But Beltran can take solace in the fact that his batting average against Lohse is the highest by any active player with at least 40 at-bats against any current pitcher.
