Only the players can save Don Mattingly's job
For a moment, let’s forget about how Don Mattingly’s players feel about him and ponder how he feels about them. When the Dodgers left San Francisco early this month, having been swept in a bitter, hard fought series, Mattingly told reporters he felt better about his team walking out than he did walking in.

If You're 105 Or Younger, You Ain't Seen This Before
For a team like the Dodgers with a rich tradition of great pitchers, Tuesday's matchup of winless starters -- Josh Beckett (0-4) for LA vs. Brandon McCarthy (0-3) for Arizona -- seemed unusual. But what we found surprised us. No let's restate that: What we found shocked our pants off. It was the first Dodgers game in 106 years for which neither starting pitcher had a victory on the season and both had at least three losses. There were only two previous games of that type in Dodgers history, and both were played at least 50 years before Walter O'Malley moved the club to LA: Jack Dunn (0-3) of Brooklyn vs. Chick Fraser (0-6) of the Louisville Colonels in 1898; and George Bell of Brooklyn (0-3) vs. Art Fromme (0-3) of St. Louis in 1907. Fraser pitched a no-hitter for the Phillies in 1903. The second of those games resulted in a 10-0 Brooklyn victory in which both starters pitched a complete game. Yup.

Ryu tosses scoreless inning in Dodgers' debut
Ryu Hyun-Jin has lost about 15 pounds since he reported to his first spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a fact that didn't go unnoticed by a reporter who used a common Korean phrase to say the left-hander's face was half its previous size.
