That is one of the great unknowns of the 2012 season. Santana missed the entire 2011 season following surgery to repair a torn capsule in his shoulder, and that's not the easiest operation from which to recover. Orel Hershiser, Mark Prior and Chien-Ming Wang are three of the few examples of pitchers who had it; Hershiser made a full recovery but wasn't quite as dominant thereafter, while Prior and Wang have struggled since going under the knife. Santana's performance was also trending downward before he got hurt, his strikeout rate plummeting, he might have trouble pitching deep into games and on a weak Mets team, that means difficulty filling the wins column.
