Big Z Leads Marlins To 7th Straight Win, All On The Road
From Elias: Carlos Zambrano won his first game in a Marlins uniform, throwing a three-hit shutout against the Astros, a team he has dominated in recent years. Starting with his no-hitter against Houston on Sept. 14, 2008 (in a game played in Milwaukee, after Hurricane Ike hit Houston), Zambrano is 6-1 with a 2.03 ERA in his last 11 starts against the Astros. The Marlins started their current road trip with a won-lost record of 8-14 (.364); Monday night's win in Houston was Miami's seventh in a row to start the trip. Only two other teams in major-league history, at least 20 games into a season, started a road trip with a winning percentage below .400 and then won their first seven games on the trip. The 1915 St. Louis Browns-managed by Branch Rickey-started a September trip with a record of 50-78 (.391) and won their first seven games on that trip; and the Browns' successors, the Orioles, started a trip in July 1987 with a 35-53 (.398) record, then won every game on a seven-game trip to Kansas City and Chicago.

Baseball's most immovable contracts?

A contract never starts off “bad,” per se. Obviously, a general manager signs a player to a contract with the intent that the player will help the team win, even if the GM knows the criticism over dollars and years is out there.
