He had 21 saves, a 2.87 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 10.80 strikeouts-per-nine innings ratio as a reliever in 2007; that said, 58 career games of relief aren't as representative of his skills as his much larger sample of 249 career starts. And among those \"starter\" seasons are a 2010 outlier of a season, during which he had a 76.3 left-on-base percentage, his third-highest single-season number, and an 8.4 home run/fly ball percentage, easily his lowest. In other words, as a pitcher, Myers is probably closer to the 2011 model than the 2010, his hope for a return to shallow-mixed-league relevance tied to whether he can dial his fastball back to the mid-90s range in which it resided in 2007. He's still only 31 years old so it's possible he might, and if the Astros follow through on this plan they lack many viable alternatives to threaten his job security.
