But considering he's the most complete of the bunch -- Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Mike Napoli (who is ticketed for first base) and Ryan Lavarnway are not good defenders behind the plate -- Ross' addition as a backup makes a lot more sense. He's actually a good partner for Saltalamacchia, because he hits lefties well -- a weakness of Saltalamacchia's -- and is a good enough player against righties to serve as a late-inning defensive replacement and occasional fill-in against that side. Ross' power contributions are enough to make him a worthy AL-only No. 2 catcher, and he's better in batting average than you think: .269 the past four years combined.","seasonId":2013,"date":"Thu Feb 21"},"playerRater30DAY":-0.3,"playerRater15DAY":-3.9,"positionRank":29}
