Mauer's 100th Hr Helps Twins Win In Ancestral Home City
From Elias: Joe Mauer had three hits including his 100th major-league home run and the Twins pushed across an 11th-inning run to slide past the Nationals, 4-3. Mauer became the 20th player to reach the century mark for the franchise that started in Washington in 1901 and moved to the Twin Cities 60 years later. (Seven of those 20 players played at least part of their careers while the team played in Washington.) That leaves only two of the 16 pre-expansion franchises that have not had as many as 20 players hit 100 home runs: the White Sox and the Cardinals each have 19 such players. (The teams with the most players reaching triple-digits in homers: the Yankees, 39; the Tigers, 33; and the Red Sox, 28.)

Mauer Takes A Lefty Deep
Joe Mauer scored three times and hit a home run off Tom Gorzelanny in Minnesota's win in Milwaukee on Monday. Mauer has hit only one other home run off a left-handed pitcher over the last three seasons (2011-13), against Cleveland's Tony Sipp last year. Mauer hit 16 home runs off left-handers in the three prior seasons (2008-10).

Mauer Breaks Tigers Fans Hearts Again
From Elias: Joe Mauer knocked out a first-inning homer off Doug Fister, propelling the Twins to a 3-2 victory in Detroit. Less than 20 hours earlier, Mauer's one-out, ninth-inning single had broken up a potential no-hitter by Anibal Sanchez. You have to go back 44 years to find the last time that a major-league player broke up a no-hitter in the ninth inning in one game, and then hit a first-inning home run in his next game. And the Tigers were the victims then, too. On May 31, 1969, Detroit's Joe Sparma took a no-hitter into the ninth inning at Seattle, but the Pilots' Don Mincher spoiled things with a one-out double; Sparma finished with a one-hitter, winning the game, 3-2. The next day, Mincher's two-run, first-inning homer off Earl Wilson helped the Pilots win, 8-7.

Mauer Stands Alone On Twins Hit Ledger
From Elias: Joe Mauer's single was the only hit for the Twins tonight, marking the third time in his career that Mauer had one base hit and his teammates had none. That's tied for the most such "one-hitters" among active players. Jerry Hairston Jr. and Michael Young also have played three games in which they got their team's lone hit in a one-hitter.

One Of A Kind Streak Ends For Mauer
From Elias: Joe Mauer went 0-for-4 in the Twins' rain-delayed loss to the Red Sox. It snapped a unique 15-game hitting streak for Mauer, who struck out at least once in each game during that streak. Mauer is the only player since 1910 (when the major leagues officially began keeping track of strikeouts by batters) to fashion a streak of more than 11 straight games in which he had both hits and strikeouts.

Minnesota's M-and-m Boys Get 3 Hits Each
From Elias: Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau collected three hits apiece and the Twins, after spotting the Orioles three runs in their first time at bat, came back to win, 8-5. It was the 11th time that the Twins' two biggest stars had stroked at least three hits in the same game, but only the second time over the last three seasons. Minnesota is now 9-2 when the M-and-M Boys each get three hits.
