Quick take: Pirates 3, Dodgers 0
The Los Angeles Dodgers are close to having their regular lineup on the field at long last, but there are no indications they are close to being the team they thought they were.

Stuck in nowhere land, but seeing the light
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers played a competitive -- and, at times, cantankerous -- series against the first-place team in their division this week. When it was over, when the teams had showered and changed, gotten on their buses for the airport and left the testosterone behind, the Dodgers' plight only deteriorated a little bit more.

Frieri's Shaky Save
From Elias: Ernesto Frieri allowed ninth-inning home runs to Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke, but still managed to earn the save in the Angels' 4-3 win over the Dodgers in Anaheim. Over the last five seasons, only one other major-league pitcher has surrendered multiple home runs in a save of one inning or less. That was the Nationals' Tyler Clippard, who gave up two homers to the Mets on July 18, 2012.

Gonzalez Finds Dodger Stadium Hitter-friendly
Adrian Gonzalez continued his hot streak, going 4 for 4 on Monday after he was 5 for 7 with three walks over the weekend. Gonzalez is only the third player to reach base safely (via hit, walk or HBP) 12 times in a three-game span at Dodger Stadium while scoring at least six runs and recording at least six RBIs. Ron Cey and Davey Lopes did that in the same three-game stretch in the summer of 1979.

Gonzalez Revives An Old Trick
From Elias: Adrian Gonzalez had an RBI double in the first inning, an RBI single in the third inning, and then homered in the fifth inning in the Dodgers' 5-3 win over the Cardinals. It marked only the second time this season that a Dodgers player had produced three RBI hits in the same game - and the previous time it happened, it was also Gonzalez who did it, on April 7 against the Pirates.
