Mariners pair top 1-2 pitching duo in majors
Major league baseball is so deep in quality starting pitching that you could probably make the case for nine or 10 different combinations as the best pair going right now. Here are my top five: 1.

Masterson Masters Another Master
From Elias: Justin Masterson beat Felix Hernandez and the Mariners on Sunday after he began the season with consecutive wins against R.A. Dickey and David Price. Past Cy Young Award winners are 1-7 versus the Indians this season, with Jake Peavy posting the lone victory among them. By beating Dickey, Price, Hernandez, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Bartolo Colon and Justin Verlander, the Indians became the first team ever to defeat seven different former Cy Young Award winners this early in a season (through the team's first 42 games).

Mariners are going to contend all summer

After another win in the Bronx last night, the Seattle Mariners are just a game below .500 and in second place in the AL West. This club was built on pitching and defense, and it's strong in both areas.

Felix Is Pitching Like A King
Felix Hernandez had another stellar performance in the Mariners' 2-1 win over the Pirates. Hernandez has earned a win, pitched at least six innings and did not allow more than one earned run in each of his last four starts. Only four other pitchers in Mariners history had a four-start stretch like that within one season: Mark Langston in 1988, Scott Bankhead in 1989 (5 in a row), Randy Johnson in 1997 (5) and Jarrod Washburn in 2009.

King Felix Reigns Supreme
Felix Hernandez continued his dominant start to the season Friday night, allowing five hits and no walks in eight shutout innings as the Mariners shut out the Blue Jays, 4-0. In seven starts in 2013, Hernandez has allowed only 39 hits and seven bases on balls while striking out 51 batters. The only other pitcher in American League history to strike out at least 50 batters over his first seven starts of a season while allowing no more than 40 hits and seven walks was Johan Santana for the Twins in 2005 (59 strikeouts, 36 hits allowed, five walks allowed).
